The celebratory tapping on the rails initiated a reconstruction and modernization of the railway line between Sudoměřice (South Bohemia) and Votice (Central Bohemia). The CEO of OHL ŽS, a.s. Ing. Roman Kocúrek and Construction Director of the Railway Division Ing. Lumír Pyszko, among other persons, took the hammer and tapped on the rails.
An approximately twenty-kilometer section of the fourth transit corridor lies on the Prague – Ceske Budejovice route, its modernization is one of the largest and most important of the current investments. A substantial part of more than seven billion dollars of costs should be paid from the European funds, as the line is also very important in the European context. The aim is above all to increase the speed, the smoothness and the efficiency of transport, comfort and safety.
A roughly twenty-kilometer section of the fourth transit corridor is located on the Prague – Ceske Budejovice line and its new single track, two tunnels, three long railway viaducts and the new railway station Červený Újezd will be added to the so far single rail section. Upon completion of this segment, which is planned for August 2021, the train speed will increase to 160 km / h, which will shorten the travel of Prague-Tábor Express for one hour.
“The execution of this construction means for us the possibility to continue with a long tradition in the railway construction, to apply our rich experience in the realization of corridor buildings and to use our own competent personnel and machinery in decisive fields such as railway superstructure and substructure, bridges, tunnels and land and road construction,” said the CEO of OHL ŽS Roman Kocúrek.
Construction and preparatory works commenced on May 1. Since then, the felling of green areas has been taking place along the route of the future relaying of the track and the establishment of the construction site and access roads. In the coming months, work will be done on both the excavated and bored parts of the two new tunnels, the consolidation embankments will be established in the positions of the supports of the future railway viaducts and at the same time, the construction of smaller bridges will begin.
