It is the only hospital building of its kind which meets the most up-to-date passive building standards. When designing and building the pavilion of II. Internal Clinic of Gastroenterology and Geriatrics, the main goal was to create dignified surroundings for patients and the hospital staff. The nurses and doctors were able to intervene with their comments in the final form of the project in terms of spatial distribution and other practical improvements. At the same time, there was an effort to design technologies, materials and the energy consumption responsibly and considerately.
In addition to the internal clinic, the pavilion Y houses other facilities. There are also bed rooms and other necessary technical background. The building will also serve as premises for educating future doctors from the university in Olomouc. Last but not least, an important part of the building is the administrative section.
The building with five above-ground and one underground floors is situated in the vicinity of the surgical complex. The U-shaped building is also remarkable in terms of overall design, engineering and design solution. It was designed as a nearly zero-energy building. The energy intensity is ten times lower compared to the premises where these health facilities are usually located.
The building also features an intensive care unit with seven boxes and four complete twenty-five-bed rooms with double and single rooms, including specially adapted rooms for obese or otherwise handicapped patients.
