The 2018 South Moravian Region Building in the category of Transport and Engineering Buildings is a project to increase track speed in the section Kuřim Tišnov. The Division Z – Railways of OHL ŽS in association with Subterra worked on this construction. Less than two years of work have resulted in benefits such as increasing speed up to 120 kilometres per hour, improving passenger comfort, wheelchair access, upgrading notification and security equipment and noise control measures.
The train station in Kuřim is one of the busy transport hubs northeast of Brno. It lies on the main railway line between Brno and Havlíčkův Brod, in addition to regional connections, the track is widely used for express trains and freight trains. In order to meet modern standards, modernization was essential. In addition, construction works have been divided into stages to maintain station operation even under limited conditions.
As part of the construction, the railway superstructure and substructure were completely reconstructed in the entire length of the station, i.e. more than 5.5 km of tracks and 17 switches. The platforms have undergone a great change, the underpass modifications and barrier-free access have also been addressed, two new elevators have been added. In particular, the complete replacement of the overhead contact line and the control technology were addressed. New noise barriers were built around the station to reduce noise pollution.
After the reconstruction of the complete area of the railyard, Subterra followed the reconstruction of the station building itself which after many years has gained a dignified and representative appearance.
