Above all, efficiency and reliability are expected in Olomouc from the reconstruction and modernization of one of the seven tram traction power substation. On Monday 28 May, it was solemnly handed over by the representatives of Division T – Technologies of OHL ŽS, a.s. to the management of Dopravní podnik Olomouc.
The project included the exchange of the technology in the substation and at the same time strengthening the power supply of the tram line on the avenue of Kosmonauts. The substation technology was completely replaced, especially power supplies, convertors, rectifiers and two transformers.
The repaired facility is key to providing tram traffic in the southern part of the city and its further development. It also reduced the risk of a power outage in the overhead contact line at important transport hubs in Olomouc.
The investment in the Traction Power Substation South came to more than 18 million CZK. The works started in last November and lasted until April this year. The small building is situated at the end of the dead-end Street Kavaleristů, adjacent to the avenue of Kosmonauts.
What is a traction power substation? A building where the technologies are placed for changing the current system or interconnecting the power supply systems. It provides facilities for powering of power-driven devices, such as trams, trolleybuses or electrified railways. The traction power substation converts a three-phase electric network to a direct current of a given voltage.
