Second place for the reconstruction of buildings of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno in the category of Reconstruction of Buildings and 3rd place for the reconstruction of the sewerage in Králova Street in Brno in the category of Water Management and Ecological Buildings. This is a successful result of the Moravian division of OHL ŽS in the last year of the South Moravian Region Construction Competition.
2nd place for the reconstruction of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno
The reconstruction of the C and D buildings on the premises of the Faculty of Arts near the historical centre of Brno lasted almost two years. “The subject of the works was a partial reconstruction of the building C and the overall reconstruction of the building D where only the original load-bearing system was preserved and all the structures and wiring were new,” said Jan Helešic.
Thanks to the reconstruction of the buildings, a functional complex of a unified appearance was created, it also has a courtyard with a relaxation area. The area is entered via a new gatehouse. Inside the buildings, there are a number of new modern classrooms. A large reading room was created on the ground floor of Building D which is already visible at the entrance to the building, it is glazed and there is an outdoor space for relaxation in front of it. The site should become a faculty’s cultural centre. If necessary, the entire space can be reduced or enlarged with a sliding wall.
Thanks to the gentle treatment, we managed to preserve the painting referring to the Armenian genocide, located just next to the former classroom no. D22. In the adjacent building C, the original staircase from 1921 was preserved.
The investor of the construction was Masaryk University Brno and it was designed by INTAR a.s., PAK spol. s r.o., Projekční architektonická kancelář spol. s r.
3rd place for the reconstruction of the sewerage in Kralova street, Brno – Zabovresky
In the category of Water Management and Ecological Buildings, the reconstruction of the sewerage in Králova Street in Brno-Žabovřesky received the 3rd place. The street has undergone a complete renovation of the sewage system, including pipes, household connections and rain gullies. In the summer months, however, the builders worked in difficult conditions. “Since the sewerage in Králova Street serves as a relief drain for Mučednická Street, the excavation was repeatedly flooded by water,” said David Novotný of the Moravian Division.
During the reconstruction of Králova Street, a particular attention was paid to the construction of a new surface and its drainage. At the same time, local residents’ requests for greater security were heard out, the street was converted to one-way traffic and the lane was narrowed.
The investor of the construction was the Brno Water Supply and Sewerage System, the designer was the Sweco Hydroprojekt, the Moravian Division.
