The supply of the complete construction of “Modernization of the Hranice – Studénka Rail Route Segment” belongs among the group of construction projects implemented as a part of the modernization and optimization of the network of selected corridors of Czech railways. From the point of view of international passenger and freight transport, this rail route segment makes up a part of Transit Rail Corridor II (Austria-Břeclav-Přerov-Petrovice u Kraviné-Poland) and meets the following parameters: increase in the track speed up to 140 km/h for traditional train units, up to 160 km/h for units with tilting wagon bodies, achievement of UIC GC traffic clearance, and achievement of the UIC D4 track load class.
It is a traditional line construction passing through the Moravian Gate (Moravská brána) and the Poodří Protected Landscape Area. The structure starts at the 212.6 km mark, behind the Hranice na Moravě railway station, and besides the rail route segments, includes the modernization of the Polom, Suchdol nad Odrou, Hladné Živoříce and Studénka stations and the Bělotín stop. The structure ends at the 246.000 km mark; the total length of the rail route segment is 33.400 km, and it is divided into 184 construction structures and 55 operational units.
The modernization included the reconstruction of the railway bed and track superstructure, semi-platforming of the stations (i.e. fitting the stations with at least one island platform in combination with platforms accessible from the level of the rails), grade-separated access ways to island platforms, reconstruction of platforms, level crossings, redevelopment of unstable slopes, reconstruction of bridges, culverts and passenger buildings, construction of subways and underground structure to accommodate technological facilities, the new passenger building in Polom. Also constructed were a new overhead contact line, communication and safety facilities, dispatching control and electric power engineering devices, new cable lines and lighting systems along with anti-noise measures in the affected locations.
