Amongst the wide range of hospital projects undertaken by the Group, for which it is traditionally known, are the latest construction works for the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Gran Canaria, completed in 1999. The entire Hospital, due to its size, high quality, variety of hospital services, unique functional architecture and incorporation of the latest technology for surgical and hospital care, may be considered a reference project, leading the current trend in hospital construction technology.
With a total constructed surface area of 193,382 m2, it is the largest hospital to be executed in a single stage in Spain. As a modern hospital, it was designed to specifically interrelate the various services provided, the orderly and rational structure of its facilities, the least possible amount of construction material and solutions, with the provision of bright open space, in order to bring together transparency, comfort and functionality, both over 2,800 employees working in the complex and the hospital patients.
The hospital is divided into three blocks (hospitalization, services and a general hospital), located along two parallel longitudinal axes. These accommodate basic internal traffic the primary facility networks, and may be used to support any future modifications or extensions (the design is open-ended). The axes, together with 8 floors and a basement, allow the various services to be well-distributed and rational traffic segregation.
Apart from the rooms and services inherent to any modern hospital, the complex also has a 300-seat theatre, a library, gardens, cafeterias, a reading room and a large educational section. All of these facilities are located in comfortable surroundings, with no architectural barriers, with large windows, verandas, terraces and roofed walkways.
The high degree of mechanization reached is represented, amongst others, by a tri-generation plant, modern surgeries and radiology equipment, an entire system to channel medicinal gas, robotized and pneumatic tube transportation networks, a water osmosis plant, modern voice and data systems, micro leveled lifts and modern security control equipment.
