THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT AND SEWER SYSTEM IN ČESKÁ TŘEBOVÁ WAS LAUNCHED

Česká Třebová, 15 September 2011 – Today the project of the reconstruction of the sewage treatment plant and completion of the sewer system in Česká Třebová was ceremonially launched. The project, the total costs of which will amount to CZK 283 million (exclusive of VAT) will be financed from the EU funds under the Operational Programme ’Environment’ (OPE), from the funds of the State Environmental Fund (SEF) and own sources of the investor, i.e. Vodárenská společnost Česká Třebová, s.r.o.

“We managed to obtain subsidies which will cover about 78 % of the total investment costs. Without this financial assistance, we could not manage to implement a water-management project of this size,” said Radoslav Budil, the managing director of Vodárenská společnost Česká Třebová, s.r.o. Under the project, the sewer system will be completed in the Parník and Lhotka local parts of Česká Třebová. A part of the sewer system will comprise of gravitational sewers and another part will also include vacuum sewerage. In total, there will be 3.2 km of sewer lines laid; one overflow and 15 pumping pits will be constructed. The project also includes the parts of the sewer connections that lie on public lands and, of course, any necessary relocation of underground services. After the construction has been completed, it will be possible to newly connect 200 equivalent inhabitants to the sewer system.

The reconstruction of the sewage treatment plant (hereinafter only STP) in Česká Třebová will ensure that its capacity will meet the emission limits at the run-off according to the valid regulations governing the sewage treatment plant category for 10 to 100 thousand equivalent inhabitants. Currently, the Česká Třebová STP is not able to eliminate organic matter and nutrients (nitrogen and phosphor forms) with sufficient efficiency  to secure the waste water quality in accordance with the current and prepared legislation of the Czech Republic and the European Union.

During the reconstruction and intensification, the STP’s core element, i.e. the biological treatment stage having the essential impact on the quality of treated waste water, will be fully modernized. Furthermore, a new facility for mechanical pre-treating and dosing of chemical agents, a new pumping station and a storm tank  will be constructed, the existing concrete constructions will be maintained and the sludge treatment and disposal facility will also be reconstructed. After the intensification, the capacity of the Česká Třebová STP will reach 20,000 equivalent inhabitants. All work will be carried out under the full operation of the STP.

The expected total investment costs amount to CZK 283 million (exclusive of VAT). Out of which OPE will provide CZK 208 million and SEF CZK 12 million. The remaining costs at the amount of CZK 63 million will be covered from own resources of Vodárenská společnost Česká Třebová, s.r.o. The contract will be implemented by the consortium of  OHL ŽS, a.s. and HOCHTIEF CZ a. s.  according to the project design of AQUA PROCON s.r.o. “The reconstruction of the sewage treatment plant in Česká Třebová ranks among the most significant water-management projects being implemented by our company at the moment, said  Jaromír Pelinka, CEO of  Division 3 Olomouc of the Surface Construction Branch OHL ŽS, a.s. The work commenced in August this year and the contract is planned to be fully completed in December 2012. Then, a year-long testing operation of the Česká Třebová STP will be under way until December 2013. Taking into account the progress of the STP’s reconstruction, it will be possible to start the construction of privately-owned parts of house sewers in October 2012.
