On 27 April the implementation of the “Improvement of Water Quality in the Jihlava and Svratka Rivers above the Nové Mlýny Dam” project was ceremonially opened by tapping the foundation stone in Ivančice. The investor of one of the biggest water management projects in the whole of the Czech Republic is the Ivančice Union of Public Services, and the contractor is Division 1 Brno of the Surface Construction Branch OHL ŽS, a.s.
The project includes the completion and reconstruction of the sewage and water supply systems in Ivančice, Oslavany and Padochov, including the reconstruction and upgrading of the sewage treatment plant in Ivančice.
The completion of this water management project will contribute to the improvement of the environment in Ivančice and its surroundings, and as a result of this, also in the whole basin of the Jihlava and Svratka rivers.
“We are pleased that this large-scale water management construction was the first that received a positive decision from the European Commission on co-financing not only under the Operational Programme Environment but also from all operational programmes in the Czech Republic for the budget period 2007 – 2013,” said Tomáš Hájek, Chairman of the Presidium of the Ivančice Union of Public Services.
The contractor has already taken over the 1st part of the construction site from the investor. In the first phase the preparation of the area for the sewage treatment plant in Ivančice will be commenced and followed up with work on the construction of the sewage and water supply systems. “A construction project of this size will also require some limitations in traffic and in the everyday lives of the inhabitants. Therefore, I would like to ask all local people, companies and institutions for their tolerance and I promise them that we will make all efforts to minimize any limitations to a time period which is absolutely necessary,” said Michal Štefl, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of OHL ŽS, a.s. today.
In total, 8.9 km of the sewage system and 11 km of water mains will be reconstructed in Ivančice, Oslavany and Padochov. The newly constructed sewer system will be 17.6 km long in total. Thanks to the upgrading of the sewage treatment plant in Ivančice, its capacity will increase by nearly 20,000 equivalent inhabitants.
The total cost of the construction will reach CZK 662.256 million, of which the cost of upgrading the sewage treatment plant is CZK 178.270 million. The European Union will contribute CZK 444.576 million to the implementation of the project. Furthermore, the project is also co-financed with subsidies from the State Environmental Fund of the CR (CZK 26.151 million) and the Regional Authority of South Bohemia Region (CZK 13 million). The investor’s own sources amount to CZK 178.528 million. The contract is planned for completion by 30 November 2012.
