OHL ŽS CONSTRUCTED A PART OF THE NATIONAL TISSUE CENTRE

15. 09. 2011

Brno, 15 September 2011 – Today, the new modern premises of the National Tissue Centre were ceremonially opened in Brno, with the České Budějovice Division of OHL ŽS, a.s. belonging among those who contributed to its realization. As the general contractor, it constructed the building officially titled “NEXT-M – Modern Medicine Products”.

It is a part of a broader plan titled “The European Centre for Bioimplantology” (hereinafter only ECB), the substantial goal of which is to develop a hi-tech production, development and research workplace focusing on products of modern therapy, tissue and cell transplants and nanotechnologies. The ECB also includes the project of Innovation of the National Tissue Centre (I-NTC), the Research Centre for Bioimplantology (VCB) and the administration centre.

Division 7 of the Surface Construction Branch OHL ŽS, a.s. was the general contractor for the NEXT-M project, while performing the role of a subcontractor (supplier of construction works) for the I-NTC and VCB projects. “When working on all three projects, we closely cooperated with  BLOCK a.s. The company supplied technology for NEXT-M and was the general contractor in the I-NTC and VCB projects,” said  Michal Štefl, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of OHL ŽS, a.s. All three projects are separate units which are however mutually interrelated. The NEXT-M project came into existence thanks to the reconstruction of the “A” building of the “Campus Office Park” complex in Brno-Bohunice, close to the Brno-Bohunice teaching hospital and the premises of the Masaryk University campus. The premises of the original “A” building were adapted for line processing somatocellular preparations, including the necessary background facilities. The building of the AIG – LINCOLN company was originally designed only for administrative purposes, partially it was occupied by tenants and partially it was ready to be rented.  The reconstruction was carried out on the 6th and 7th floors and on the 2nd below-ground floor. The production premises are located on the 6th floor, the 7th floor (the flat roof of the building) accommodates technical facilities of the construction, and an emergency power supply, a transformer station and storage rooms are located on the 2nd below-ground floor. The contract also included the remodelling of the building and work related to the establishment of laboratories, clean premises and the construction of technologies for laboratories and other operational premises.

The implementation of the construction was very complicated due to the demanding remodelling work, including some work performed on the supporting structures of the ceilings of the building above the 6th floor. The partition walls and light suspended ceilings are new. There are mostly clean premises with various degrees of cleanliness, determined for the production itself, on the 6th floor. At the same time, an area for a nanoline and an experimental laboratory was constructed.

Builders had to carry out some work on the roof construction, including weather checks, on the roof of the building. The roof was completely dismantled down to the reinforced-concrete floor slab.

It was strengthened on both sides by means of carbon segments which were lined with fire-protection panels in two layers. After these adaptations, four new engine rooms were built and a new roof assembly was laid.

The testing operation successfully took place in the NEXT-M building from the completion of the construction in June this year until 25 July when the validation tests took place. The investor of the project was PrimeCell a.s.  and the total costs of the NEXT-M building  implementation amounted to CZK 127 million, exclusive of VAT.
