ČESKÁ TŘEBOVÁ HAS A NEW TRANSPORT TERMINAL

15. 09. 2010

On 15 September 2010, the new transport terminal was ceremonially opened in Jan Perner Square, Česká Třebová. The investor was the Municipality of Česká Třebová, with the European Union participating in the project’s funding through the Regional Operational Programme NUTS II North-West. A part of the contract was also performed for Czech Railways.

In accordance with modern trends of passenger transportation, the transport terminal is a solution interconnecting the railway, coach and individual automobile traffic in the Česká Třebová transport junction. “The transport terminal construction ranks among the largest projects of the Pardubice Region, supported from the European Union’s funds, and it will significantly contribute to improving the traffic issues related not only  to Česká Třebová itself but also to the surrounding region with more than 100,000 inhabitants,” said Jaroslav Zedník, the Mayor of Česká Třebová.

The transport terminal also includes 200 m long and 32 m wide underground garages with 259 parking spaces, built using the method of re-drilled pile walls. The systems of operation of the underground garages and new bus station are interconnected with the passenger building of Czech Railways, which significantly increases the comfort of passengers.  Access to the surface from the underground garages is enabled by an elevator and escalator. The modern steel and glass roofing of the bus station is a new dominant feature of Jan Perner Square. Another outstanding feature of the new transport terminal is a water cascade and a revolving granite globe placed in a granite leaf. The street lighting is also completely new; landscaping was also carried out as a part of the contract, including the adjacent communications and the roundabout. The transport terminal construction also respects the needs of persons with limited mobility who now have corresponding communication and orientation devices available to them. The significance of Česká Třebová as an important railway junction is illustrated by the abstract sculpture of one of the leading world railway constructors, Jan Perner. The author of the sculpture is Jaromír Gargulák. The sculpture is a separate investment of the Municipality of Česká Třebová.

During the construction, it was necessary to ensure the continuous transport serviceability of the shops and business premises in the passenger building, the Czech Post Office and ČD Cargo, and also to maintain the continuous traffic capacity of Slovanská Street where the bus station was temporarily moved to. Contrary to the original project, a number of changes were implemented both in the technology of the construction project and at the request of the investor. Hence, only a negligible percentage of the original project was maintained, and the majority of the project documents had to be completely reworked during the construction. Concurrently with this contract, we also constructed the subway to the passenger building of the Czech Railways and reconstructed the public toilets,” said Jaromír Pelinka, Director of Division 3 Olomouc of OHL ŽS, a.s.

The author of the architectonic design is the architect Martin Hájek from Hradec Králové; the author of the complete project documents is OPTIMA, spol. s r.o. Vysoké Mýto. The contract was implemented by Division 3 Olomouc of OHL ŽS, a.s. The construction was commenced in December 2008 and finished in August this year. “I believe that the new transport terminal will make transportation easier for the inhabitants as well as visitors of Česká Třebová, thus contributing to an enhanced quality of life in the City,” said František Ledabyl, the 1stVice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and Marketing and Sales Director of OHL ŽS, a.s. The cost of the terminal construction amounted to CZK 323 mill. VAT included, and the work was performed for Czech Railways at the amount of CZK 21.5 mill. VAT included.
