On 29 April 2010, a new central dining hall for patients was ceremonially opened in the Paseka Specialised Sanatorium near Uničov. At the same time, related adaptations of the buildings in the sanatorium premises were completed. “The sanatorium in Paseka is unique thanks to its climate and the surrounding environment.” I believe that the new dining hall meeting the highest standards will contribute to further increasing the comfort of the local patients,” said the President of the Olomouc Region, Martin Tesařík.
“Our employees have a lot of experience with the construction of buildings for health care institutions. I believe that the patients who will use the new dining hall will appreciate their work,” said Michal Štefl, the Chairman of the Board and CEO of OHL ŽS, a.s., the company that built the dining hall.
The central dining hall is a separate single-floor building located in the north part of the premises between Building D and the service building. The dining hall is connected to them by its south and east part. It has an irregular ground plan that was adapted to the free space between the older buildings of the sanatorium. The north part of the dining hall oriented towards a wood has a symmetrical shape and is finished with a five-sided articulated facade.
One of the workshops in the west part of the service building was attached to the dining hall and a catering area was established there. It has a new construction of the roof, a new floor and the windows were also adapted. The capacity of the whole dining hall is up to 135 people, but at the moment it will serve 120 diners. Emergency sanitary facilities were also built for patients directly in the dining hall and are situated in the area in the corner of the new dining hall and the service building.
Patients may enter the dining hall through a separate entrance from outside and also through a newly built corridor leading from Building B. Staff members also have access from Building D through the main cooking area. When the access corridor was being built, the second floor of Building D was extended and the offices, sanitary facilities and the staircase area also had to be adapted. The wash room on the first floor was also extended towards the east, i.e. to the courtyard. The dining hall has a saddle roof, with a slope of 20-26°, the roof in the north part of the building has the form of a pyramid. Large rectangular windows and French doors provide sufficient light in the north part of the dining hall. The facade of the whole dining hall blends in with the older buildings in the premises and is yellow and ochre.
The investor of the additional building and reconstruction was the Olomouc Region Authority and its total cost is nearly CZK 13.1 million, excluding VAT. The contract was implemented by Division 3 Olomouc of the Surface Construction of OHL ŽS, a.s. Work commenced in October 2009 and finished on schedule, i.e. on 29 April 2010.
