Open Day at the Královopolské Tunnels

13. 09. 2009

On Saturday, 12 September, an open day was organised on the site of the Královopolské Tunnels construction in Brno. Representatives of the constructor – the VMO Dobrovského B consortium comprising of OHL ŽS, a.s. (the leading member of the consortium), Metrostav a.s. and Subterra a.s. as its members – thus complied with the strong interest shown by the general public in this significant transport construction.

Between 9 am and 2 pm, the site was visited by more than 6.5 thousand visitors for whom there were prepared not only tours of the tunnels themselves, but also an accompanying programme, including refreshments and small gifts. Experts answered questions from the general public; visualizations of both tunnels and the large city circuit that the tunnels are a part of were available on the site. Construction machines were also on display.

Královopolský Tunnel I is 1,237 meters long and is designed on the route under the existing Dobrovského Street. The 1,019 meters of the driven parts of the tunnel are followed by the excavated parts constructed in lagged pits, which are 168 m long in Žabovřesky and 50 m long in Královo Pole. Královopolský Tunnel II is 1,258 meters long and runs parallel with the first tunnel, about 70 meters to the south. The driven part is 1,060 m long and the excavated parts are 149 m long in Žabovřesky and 49 m long in Královo Pole. At the end of August, a total of 660 m in Tunnel I and 755 m in Tunnel II were driven in full section.
