The “Optimization of the Krasíkov – Česká Třebová Rail Route Segment” construction belongs among the group of construction projects implemented as a part of the modernization and optimization of the network of selected corridors of Czech railways. From the point of view of international passenger and freight transport, the Krasíkov – Česká Třebová rail route segment is a connecting rail of Transit Rail Corridor II (Austria-Břeclav-Přerov-Ostrava -Petrovice-Poland), linking it to Transit Rail Corridor I (FRD-Děčín-Prague-Česká Třebová-Brno-Břeclav-Austria). The connecting rail also makes up a part of the East-West connection. This rail route segment is truly one of the most constructionally challenging on the railway lines of the rail corridors in the Czech Republic. The route passes through very difficult territory, with extremely complex geological conditions in some places. The original railway line was double-tracked, with one track running in each direction in the Třebovice v Čechách – Rudoltice v Čechách rail route segment. This situation resulted from the gradual separation of track 1 from track 2 due to unfavourable geological conditions in the segment behind Třebovice. The railway line is electrified with a direct current overhead contact line; the station is powered in Rudoltice. The relevant technical device was obsolete and the technical conditions of the railway line did not comply with the conditions and requirements of the current traffic. The line contained 2 tunnels – Třebovice and Tatenice.
The construction was implemented with the aim of putting the Krasíkov – Česká Třebová rail route segment into a structural & technical and operational condition that would comply with the set parameters, i.e. an increase in the track speed up to 160 km/h for traditional train units as well as for units with tilting wagon bodies, the achievement of the D4 – UIC track load class – the axial load of 225 kN and the traffic clearance corresponding to the UIC GC clearance limit, including the bridge structures and culverts in the whole rail route segment.
The construction has a traditional linear character; it is partially implemented on the existing bed; the segment behind Třebovice, including the new tunnel, has been laid out within a new route location. Major changes were introduced in this rail route segment. The old Třebovice tunnel was replaced with a railway cutting and “ecotunnel” where both tracks lead of in a parallel manner. Two new tunnels and two new bridges across the Moravská Sázava River were constructed in the rail route segment behind Krasíkov, straightening the railway line in this area. The Tatenice stopping point has been established on the bridge between the tunnels. The construction starts at the 4.450 km mark and ends at the 26.450 km mark according to the new localization by kilometre spacing.
The objective of the construction was to reconstruct the railway bed and track superstructure for the speed of 120 - 140 km with respect to traditional train units and 160 km with respect to train units with tilting wagon bodies, and to reconstruct bridges, culverts, overhead contact line, power supply station in Rudoltice, safety and communication facilities, cable lines and lighting of railway stations and stopping points, to construct three new tunnels, subways, platforms, necessary technological structures to accommodate technological devices, to redevelop unstable slopes, to reconstruct and construct abutment and breast walls, to implement anti-noise measures and extensive soft landscaping.
