On 27 May 2010, the Hájek Sports and Recreational Grounds were ceremonially opened in Náměšť nad Oslavou. Thanks to the re-cultivation of the former sewage treatment plant premises, the municipality has obtained new sports grounds as well as a site for children’s games. The investor was the Služby města Náměště nad Oslavou, s.r.o., municipal services company.
“You can never say there are enough sites where children can play and take part in sports. I am very glad we have managed to build such beautiful grounds near the city centre,” said the mayor of the town, Vladimír Měrka. The grounds include three tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, a streetball court, a tennis training wall and two pétanque areas. A children’s playground with monkey bars, swings and other attractions for youngsters is situated in the part furthest away from the road. The additional facilities comprise of a refreshment kiosk, changing rooms and toilets for visitors to the grounds. The contract also included the sewer system, water piping, communications and street lighting in the grounds. One interesting point is that there is a technical monument in the grounds. i.e. two Schultz fine sand filters.
Taking into account the very complicated foundation conditions in the reclaimed area, the contractor had to carry out geophysical measuring by means of a geo-radar device in April 2009. Since an extensive conductivity zone and large accumulation of water were established, the ground surface stabilization was designed and implemented in the area, including an extensive drainage system.
The new sports grounds are located near the roundabout next to Brněnská street which has heavy traffic. Access for pedestrians is secured by a stairway and the path leading from the Sokol gymnasium; vehicles delivering necessary supplies and used for maintenance services in the grounds may use the road leading to the sewage treatment plant.
The investor of the grounds was Služby města Náměště nad Oslavou, s.r.o., municipal services company, the contractor was OHL ŽS, and the total investments amounted to nearly CZK 13 million, excluding VAT. The implementation of the project started on 29 August 2008 and it was fully completed on 30 April 2010.
