A press conference was held on 15 July on the completion of the modernization of transit railway corridor IV between Doubí u Tábora and Tábor. Two new bridges, subways, an underpass, noise barriers, etc. were constructed in the 11.77 km long section. The line is now double-tracked and the facilities in the stations respect the needs of disabled persons. The investor was the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organization and the contractor was the “Sdružení Doubí – Tábor” consortium with OHL ŽS, a.s. as its leading member. The total costs of the section modernization amounted to nearly CZK 2.8 billion.

Tábor, 15 July 2009 - It is a nearly 12 km long section between Doubí u Tábora and Tábor , which makes up a part of national transit railway corridor IV. During the modernization, the section was converted into a double-track line and trains may now travel at a speed of up to 160 km/h on it. Also the Planá nad Lužnicí and Tábor railway stations and the Sezimovo Ústí stop were finally renovated. There is comfortable and barrier-free access to trains available to passengers – new island platforms were created. As a part of the modernization, a completely new stop titled “Tábor – Čápův Dvůr” was constructed at the 79.208 km mark with two platforms, each of 140 m.
The construction starts at the 71.700 km mark and ends at the 83.470 km mark, i.e. the length of the construction is 11.770 km. The modernization led to accomplishing the maximum track speed for the traditional train unit of 110 km/h and of 160 km/h for the train units with tilting wagon bodies, and the UIC GC traffic clearance and the D4 UIC track load class. The investor of the construction is the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organization. Its CEO, Jan Komárek, said: “Passengers will also finally be provided with higher standards and better safety. The height of the platform edge of all platforms is 550 mm above the surface of the rails which makes boarding a train easier. All the platforms are equipped with navigation systems, a public-address system and new lighting. Completion of this construction also significantly increased the safety not only of the railway traffic, but also of the traffic on roads as we managed to do away with three railway crossings and replace them with grade-separated crossings.”
The railway crossing on the no. 409 B-road in Planá nad Lužnicí, in the direction of Chýnov, at the 74.800 km mark was removed and replaced with a subway and a new underpass. A new subway was constructed in Sezimovo Ústí at the 77.644 km mark, replacing the former pedestrian crossing. Another crossing was successfully replaced at the 80.377 km mark in Maredův vrch. Instead of it, pedestrians have been provided with a foot-bridge, and road traffic with a new and extended bridge in Rokycanova Street.
Two 350 m-long island platforms (one new and one reconstructed) and one 60 m-long side-loading platform are now available at the Tábor railway station. In the Planá nad Lužnicí railway station there is a new 220 m-long island platform and a side-loading platform of the same length. To make movement easier for disabled persons, the platforms, subways and passenger buildings have been equipped with barrier-free access; the platforms have been equipped with guiding lines, signal and warning strips and acoustic beacons for blind and visually impaired persons. Four new lifts have been provided in Tábor to secure barrier-free access. The barrier-free access in the Planá nad Lužnicí station has been secured with covered access ramps.
During the reconstruction of the track system of the railway station in Tábor, the subway under the station was prolonged, now connecting two city districts and enabling direct access to trains from Vodňanská Street and passage for pedestrians between the Blanické Suburb and the busy area in front of the railway station. As a related investment, the Tábor railway station was fitted with a new railway overbridge at the 82.080 km mark, which was put into its pilot operation as early as on 3 June this year.
Also constructed was a new transformer station in the Planá nad Lužnicí railway station. There are 57 switches with electric heating altogether in the section, which will make maintenance in the winter season significantly easier. Based on an acoustic study, the modernization also included anti-noise measures. 6,137 m of noise barriers were erected in total and had necessary specific acoustic treatments applied in the form of re-sealing or the exchange of windows in the buildings designed for permanent occupation. “The modernized section is not only safe and comfortable for passengers and railway personnel, but also beautiful from a builder’s point of view. I am proud our employees worked on this,” said Michal Štefl, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of OHL ŽS, a.s., today.
The contractor of the construction is the “Sdružení Doubí – Tábor” consortium, with OHL ŽS, a.s. (the leading member of the consortium), Subterra a.s. and Viamont DSP a.s. as its members. The designer of the construction was SUDOP PRAHA a.s. The total costs of the section modernization amounted to CZK 2,776,683, 000.
The construction titled “Modernization of the Veselí nad Lužnicí – Tábor Line, Part I, Doubí u Tábora – Tábor” has been proposed to be co-financed by the European Union under the Transport Operational Programme through the Cohesion Fund, and the contribution of the EU may amount to 85 % of the total volume of eligible costs. The remaining part is co-financed from national sources through the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
