On 14 - 17 March 2006, ŽS Brno, joint-stock company, participated in the largest European forum in the sector of real estate and investment opportunities which was held in Cannes, France.

MIPIM – the largest European forum in the sector of real estate and investment opportunities – was held in the Festival Palace in Cannes, France this year on 14 - 17 March. It was the 17th consecutive year of this significant fair.

Contrary to most competitive fairs, which often cover only certain regions, MIPIM has obtained a completely global character as there is truly no significant country that would fail to delegate its representatives to participate in the fair.

This trend has been increasingly guiding the fair from its contracting character to the presentation event. Nearly all European urban centres, the most important European and global investors, developers, banks and financial institutions, cities and the whole regions and real estate agents had their own stands at the fair. 21 thousand participants in total came to Cannes from more than 6 thousand companies operating in 74 countries and presenting their exhibitions on more than 20,000 m² of the exhibition area.

The Czech Republic therefore could not be missing from the fair – this year Prague, Brno, Ostrava and Ústí nad Labem, standing up to the competition of the largest European cities ranging from Paris to London, presented themselves as attractive locations where foreign investors may implement their investment plans. The fact that top councillors of the cities were present in person proved the significance attached to the presentation at the fair by the Czech Republic.

Our company, represented by the Construction Engineering Ostrava Division of the Surface Construction Branch, was among the partners of the City of Ostrava that participated in the fair for the 9th consecutive time.

ŽS Brno, a. s. was represented in person by its most competent representatives – CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Michal Štefl, member of the Board of Directors and Director of the Surface Construction Branch, Josef Martinovský, and Director of the Construction Engineering Ostrava Division, Jan Navrátil.

The annual climax of the fair is the announcement of the Best Developments of the World – MIPIM Awards. The prestigious prizes are awarded to winning projects in five categories – administrative centres, shopping malls, residential projects, reconstructed office buildings, hotels and tourist complexes. The core evaluation criteria applied to the competing projects include especially technical and architectural qualities of the projects, their originality and integrity with their surroundings, infrastructure level along with accessibility and related services on offer. The finalists – 3 in each category –  are selected by an expert jury comprised of leading experts from the European real estate market. The winning projects chosen from among the three finalists in each category are always selected by the visitors to the fair themselves.

The presence of ŽS Brno, a. s. at the MIPIM fair next year will once again herald a prestigous occasion.
