On 2 October 2004, the new building of the contemporary music theatre stage of the Brno City Theatre was handed over for operation at a ribbon cutting ceremony. The construction was implemented by the Surface Construction Branch. The ceremonial opening of the new music stage took place under the baton of the Director of the theatre, Stanislav Moša, and because a theatre is not opened every day, several ribbons were cut at the same time. The Mayor of the City of Brno, Petr Duchoň, was asked to cut the first ribbon because the Municipality of the City of Brno was the main initiator of the discussion on the new stage construction. The second ribbon was cut by the First Deputy Minister of Culture, Zdeněk Novák, as a representative of the investor. Yet another ribbon was cut by the Chairman of the Office for the Protection of Competition, Josef Bednář, to provide imaginary patronage for the supervision over the “competition” among theatres. Because it was a government procurement contract which could very likely not have been implemented without the support provided by state authorities and the Czech government, the person asked to cut the final ribbon was the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Zdeněk Škromach.

All guests were welcome to tour and view the theatre at their leisure.
