On 6 November 2006, a new extended subway was ceremonially put to operation in the main railway station in Olomouc, connecting the Hodolany metropolitan district with the area in front of the railway station in the city centre. Until today, people living in this metropolitan district did not have the possibility of crossing the railway line safely in this approx. one-kilometre long section. Thus, the new subway not only connected both parts of Olomouc but also contributed to the enhanced safety of railway traffic.

The construction was implemented by the “Rekonstrukce kolejiště Olomouc, hlavní nádraží” consortium of companies comprising of OHL ŽS, a.s., Firesta – Fišer, rekonstrukce, stavby a.s. and TOMI – REMONT a.s. as its members. The investors of the project were Czech Railways, joint-stock company, and the Railway Infrastructure Administration, state organization. OHL ŽS’s share in the contract amounted to almost CZK 105.5 million.
